It is all about Chinese these days…

  • March 16, 2009 7:54 pm

My taste for food has changed drastically over the last few days. And when this happens, hubby and I keep trying new restaurants like crazy. Both of us are highly appreciative of good food. While he in particular likes trying out food of different origins,I am not too much of a risk taker. My menu was pretty much limited to North Indian food until a few weeks back when hubby introduced me to Chinese. From then on there is this extreme craving for Chinese food.Hubby is kinda regretting having introduced me to this ,coz  I have started compelling him to take me out for dinner almost once in every 5 days. :-) My very first experience with Chinese food started with Beijing Bites.Good place! Located at Indiranagar,80 feet road adjacent to ‘Pongal’ restaurant, this place has truly good ambiance with prompt service. On weekends,it is better to get a table booked because it tends to get a lil crowded in the nights. The food tastes good, particularly their Thai variety. In fact the Thai there is better than their Chinese, and the price is quiet decent too.A vegetarian meal for two would cost you around 350 bucks.Yes,I am a vegetarian in the true sense of the term. :-) The starters that you should look out for are Pan Fried Mushroom Chunkin style and Veg. Fried Dumpling. For the soups,Lemon Grass and TomYam are safe bets. For the main course, you could comfortably try Phad Khi Mao,Phad Thai or any of their rice items with a dash of coke.Stir Fried Broccoli,Mixed Veg. Hongkong Babycorn,Buddhas delight or Diced Vegetables In Choice Of Sauce will make good gravies. My personal favorites are Buddha’s delight and phad ki thai.Almost everything on their menu tastes good, but I have a mild feeling they tend to overuse MSG and corn flour. So when you go there,it would help to tell the waiters to reduce the MSG content in your food.

If you are looking for restaurants that are less crowded, and offer yummy food, with great ambiance but price a little on the higher side, you should try and visit Mandarin Bangalore,in Indiranagar. With an ultra good  ambiance the restaurant boasts of authentic Chinese food.I have been regularly visiting this place and I found the restaurant to be highly consistent in terms of quality and service. The restaurant is very inviting. The waiters here are very polite, and food close to authentic Chinese.(I am happy it is not totally Chinese, because I wonder if I would be able to eat it myself. ;) ).The menu has lot of options for vegetarians unlike many other chinese restaurants. You can comfortably try anything mentioned on their menu and I bet you will not be disappointed. They can try and do better on the starters’ front though, because the starters section lacks variety, although their baby corn starter is a must try.Stir Fried Chinese greens’ ,’Buddhas delight’ in their gravies section are absolute hits.Except for their baby cornm starter the remaining starters can be given a miss.An extravagant three cousre meal for two can cost you around 600 bucks,i.e. for the vegetarian category. But this place is truly a value for your money…one of those few restaurants that would make you want to come back again and again.:-) Definitely worth a try.

I generally have this tendency of reading reviews on hotels before I try out any. When I searched for a review on Mandarin I dint find any,but thought I would give it a try nevertheless.I am glad I did.Hope you too like the place:-)

In case you happen to visit any of these restaurants after reading my review, please drop me a line on how useful you found the review.Thank you! Happy eating! :-)
