Thoughts..

  • September 6, 2008 12:54 pm

I drafted this post about 3 months back, but somehow never posted it.Thought I would post it now.All that you read in this post were my views a few months back, although some of them are applicable even now. :)

It had been a very boring and a fruitless day, except for the morning part of it , where I got to listen to a bigshot’s very interesting views on how innovation can be bought into the retail domain. That is supposedly the domain in which I am working in , although I can comfortably say I have not taken any great pains in learning this domain. Actually the domain or the so-called-functionality stuff is not my cup of tea. I would rather spend time sipping tea…Ok…That was a PJ! Yeah , so…I would rather spend time in learning something technical than breaking my head over understanding something as uninteresting as Domain. This however does not mean I have long term plans of becoming a techie or something. Actually what I am doing now is definitely not in alignment with my future goals. I know I want to become a manager some day…or may be a little more than a manager….I guess I have enough time to figure out what I actually wanna be. At times I keep thinking very seriously ki mera kya hoga if I only keep doing what I am doing.Wudnt that be boring ? I do not find it boring now…Presently (and I m sure this will last for a few more months a least)I show a great enthusiasm in my work even if it means something as trivial as retrofitting fixes or raising requests,at times. But a year or two later , I would not know if I can sustain this enthu…And moreover to grow big in this industry you definitely need to plan , and plan well. Folding your hands and waiting for things to happen will get you nowhere.

And besides there is another challenging thing that you would need to overcome here..And that is , politics at the workplace….You would need to get used to people talking behind you …You would need to get used to people who play unfair…You will need to keep your fist in control each time you see a person copy you , or envy you for what you are..You definitely need to keep your cool , when that irritating person in your project who you consider simply hyped up , keeps talking volumes about something and projects it like it is the most complicated thing to do , ever.

Also you should just learn to sit and relax each time you feel your efforts are not being appreciated . You cannot get angry over people who keep giving their fundas in all the irrelevant places…Also you should not get angry on someone who gets angry with you just because you are trying to get more and more productive at work.

All you should do is blindly agree with people here and give them a false sense of satisfaction that they are right. There are many other places where you can keep proving your point …Do not treat the work place as one…try remaining as professional as you can..The next time , that irritating person in your team gives you fundas or keeps stating the obvious , just pretend like you are hearing it for the first time…You aren’t going to lose much….Your opinions , your thoughts , your actions , are all yours…You dont have to waste them on unimportant people….Each time you try proving a point make sure you do so with a person ready to listen to mixed opinions. In short dont indulge in unnecessary arguments , particularly with unnecessary people. And then each time some one tries to piss you off , just remember within a few hours from then , you would be going to the land of peace , to the best human being you have ever met…Yes , your home and your spouse…I am saying this with considerable experience..So trust me here…

Indulge in constructive discussions. Stay amidst people who spread positive vibes , and make you laugh . Avoid people who keep cribbing or gossiping . Breathe fresh air! Put your headphones on. Listen to some relaxing music…It is ok if you are at work. As long as you are showing results , nobody can question you. That is the mantra to stay cool and happy in a professional environment. I actually sat down to write this post with an altogether different topic in mind…Looks like my emotions got the better of me…:)
